Question:
Assalamualaikum. Two questions. Is gold ring haram for 3 month old baby boy?
Is it alright for men to wear platinum ring?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
- Rasulullaah ﷺ said regarding gold and silk,
إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ حَرَامٌ عَلَى ذُكُورِ أُمَّتِي
“Indeed, these two are haraam for the males of my ummah.” [Abu Dawood 4057]
The word dhukoor is general and includes non-baaligh boys. Furthermore, the nurturing and upbringing of a child is from a young age. Accordingly, a baby boy should not wear gold rings.
- According to the Hanafi legal school, a man is only permitted to wear silver or silver plated rings. Platinum rings are not permissible.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
