Haaidhah in musalla

Fatwaa ID: 534

Question:
Asalamualaikum
Is it permitted for a haidha to sit in a hospital or airport musallah?
The ladies’ premises is with the men’s side, separated by a folding partition. Jumuah khutbah, salah all led by a full time imaam. Not sure if all other salah led by imam or not.

The hospital in question is Bellevue Hospital. A haidha was with her partner in the hospital on Jumuah and sat for the khutbah. Now wants to know for future reference whether or not that is permissible to do, and to make istigfaar if it’s not.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

A musalla does not qualify as a masjid. This includes airport and hospital prayer places. Hence, the laws of a masjid are not applicable to it. A menstruating woman may enter and be in such places. There is no reprehension or prohibition.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
