Haaji will perform qurbaani and hady

Fatwaa ID: 1240

Question:
Aslamoalikum mufti sb. Hope you are well.

Does a person performing hajj need to perform 2 sacrifices i.e hady (هدي/دم الشكر) and regular Qurbani (قربان /(أضحية?
Can you please recommend a guide book (and any other relevant resources) for understanding the hajj process?

Jazakallah.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. Qurbaani and Hajj are two separate things. If a haaji meets the requirements for qurbaani, then he must offer the qurbaani. Requirements include financial condition as well as the haaji being a muqeem/resident. If he is not a resident but rather a musaafir, then qurbaani will not be waajib on him.

This is aside from the Dam of Shukr that must be offered by one perfoming Hajj Tamattu’ or Qiraan. If one is performing Hajj Ifraad, then this sacrifice is mustahabb for him. This sacrifice must be done in the Haram.

Thus, if a haaji is performing Tamattu’ or Qiraan Hajj and he is a muqeem/resident, then he will have to offer two sacrifices. One of the two must be in the Haram. The second may be done there or elsewhere.

  1. You may refer to the following book by Shaykh Ebrahim Noor (H), https://islamicportal.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Hajj-Checklist-2nd-Edition-2022-Edition.pdf
