I was planning to perform Umrah with whole family next year in shah allah. However my father suggested that since hajj is farj for me, I should go for Hajj first before doing Umrah. Is there any guidance related to this? Is it permissible to perform Umrah before going for Hajj?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
It is permissible to perform ‘Umrah before going for Hajj. If Hajj becomes fardh upon a person, then that obligation remains until the Hajj is performed. It will not be waived because of funds depleting. Accordingly, if going for ‘Umrah will result in financial difficulties or burden for Hajj, then one should perform Hajj first. If it will not create a burden, then there is no reprehension. Likewise, if Hajj is not fardh on the person yet, then there is no problem.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
