Salaams… pray you are well.
What does Islam say about ‘Hakims’? By feeling the pulse around your wrist can they actually tell what the person is going through? Individuals problems, health issues etc.
Should we believe in them and have the medicine they recommend?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
A hakeem is a doctor or practitioner of herbal and natural medicine. They assess sicknesses and/or physical issues through checking the pulse and symptoms. They cannot assess “individual problems”. Just like an allopathic medical doctor, they come to these conclusions by various medical related issues. Likewise, they study the science for years and train under certified herbal doctors/hakeems before starting their own practice. There is no mystery behind it.
Accordingly, it is permissible to consult them for your health issues. You may take the medicines they prescribe provided that they are halaal.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
