Assalamualaikum. Is there any significance in having an ‘Ameen’ for a child who has finsihed Quran for first time? If one is being invited to speak at an ‘Ameen’ what should one talk about?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
- We understand that an “Aameen” is a cultural function where the child’s accomplishment of completing the recitation of the Qur’aan for the first time is celebrated. This function has no religious significance or virtue. To regard it otherwise will render it a bid’ah. However, it is permissible for one to modestly host such a function as a form of expressing his happiness and encouraging the child. One must ensure that his beliefs and intentions are correct and that the function is free from all impermissible and inappropriate things.
- If one is invited to attend and speak at such an event, then he may join. He should advise and encourage the audience about the importance of the Qur’aan and contuing bonding with it. Reciting it once is not sufficient nor does it fulfill its rights on us. It is only the start of a journey.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
