Hifz of the last harakah

Fatwaa ID: 266

Question:
‎اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰـهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ‎

When memorizing to become a hafiz do we have to remember the ends of every verse, as in Surah Fatiha

Do we have to remember “ar rahman ir raheem i maaliki youm id deen?

Or just ar Rahman ar raheeem. Maliki youm…?

Is our memorization complete if we did not memorize this?

جزاك الله خيرا

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is of utmost importance that one learns the harakah of the last letter of each verse. Without that, he would not be able to join the verses correctly. In such a case, the meaning could be distorted. A haafizh is one who has memorized the Qur’aan in its entirety, every letter and every harakah of it.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
