Question:
Aslmk, can the husband of a maternal or paternal uncle a mahram for the niece.
Can a brother in law from either her husband or her sister in law or her own sister be a mahram for a woman
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
Your question is not lucid. We will answer below according to what we have understood. If something is not answered, you may revert to us.
- The husband of one’s aunt, maternal or paternal, is not a mahram. The laws of hijaab and inter-gender interactions are fully applicable.
- The brother-in-law of one’s husband is obviously a non-mahram. One’s own brother-in-law is not a mahram. The laws of hijaab and inter-gender interactions are fully applicable when dealing with them.
- The husband of one’s sister as well as sister-in-law are non-mahrams. The laws of hijaab and inter-gender interactions are fully applicable.
There is gross negligence amongst many of the people in regards to hijaab and interactions with the above people. In reality, they are like any other stranger. One must adhere to the laws of Shari’ah even if one’s culture says otherwise.
