Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
This sister got her divorce and is asking this 👇🏻
Do u know if i have to be in iddat for 2 months considering i havent lived with him in past 2 years

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala make it easy for you and grant you happiness and comfort.

Irrespective of the duration of separation between a husband and a wife, upon divorce, a woman whose marriage was consummated will have to observe the full ‘iddah. The ‘iddah of a divorcee is three menstrual cycles, not two months as assumed by the sister. Her ‘iddah has started from the time the talaaq was issued.
