Imaam leading Jumu’ah after its time

Fatwaa ID: 371

Asalam Alaikum Wrbu.
ICM had a question that if Masjid can have Jumah at 3 pm
even though ASR Shafi time will enter at 2:57 pm.
Is it okay that a Shafi Imam lead the Jumah prayer after 3 pm when according to them Asr has set it. JazakAllah Khayr

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

-The Shaafi’ee imaam may not lead Jumu’ah Salaah at 3 pm if his ‘Asr starts at 2:57 pm. He will have missed the Jumu’ah in its time and it will now be qadhaa. Qadhaa of Jumu’ah is prayed as four rak’ahs. The salaah in the enquired situation will be invalid.

-In a diverse community, the Hanafi masjids should not keep Jumu’ah this late even if it is led by a Hanafi. They should be considerate of those who follow the standard time for ‘Asr.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
