Income from managing hedge funds

Fatwaa ID: 1671

Assalaamu alaykum wrwb,

A man makes money from managing/administrating hedge funds…is it permissible for us to take gifts from their family or eat from their food?

Jazaakumullaahu khayran

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala guide the person in question. His job as a hedge fund administrator or manager is haraam. The income therefrom is haraam. If that is his only source of income, then it will not be permissible to accept gifts from him or eat his food. If he has other sources of income which are halaal, then you may accept and eat from him.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
