Injured neck and Salaam

Fatwaa ID: 1077

Selam Alejkum va rahmetullah respected scholars. I pray this message finds you well.

I have injured my neck to the extent that it’s extremely painful to turn to the right and say “asalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullah” to end the prayer. Would it be sufficient for me to just say it, or would some effort to turn my head (even slightly) be necessary? Thank you

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala grant upon complete and quick shifaa.

In principle, it is a sunnah to turn one’s head to the right and to the left when saying the salaams to conclude the salaah. If one is unable to turn the head due to an injury, then it will be sufficient for him to just say the salaams without moving the neck. The salaah will be valid.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
