Interest money for toiletry and masjids

Fatwaa ID: 1812

Assalamu alaykum.
May I ask can interest money be used for any toiletry items such as toilet rolls, bleaches for personal usage? Or can it only be given to madaris/masaajid.
Jazakumullah Khayran

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Interest money must be given away to the poor and needy without any expectation of reward. It is haraam to accrue it in the first place. Sincere tawbah and istighfaar must be made. Keeping the above in mind, the answers to your queries are as follows:

  1. No. Interest money may not be used to purchase toiletry items. It is not permissible for you to benefit from this money.
  2. Interest money may not be donated the masjids or Islamic institutes. They are not in need of your filthy money. Allaah Ta’aala only accepts that which is pure.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
