Istibra and cleaning urine

Fatwaa ID: 1792

Question:
aslam o alikum Dear respected mufti. I have a question regarding Istibra. I really struggle with Istibra and I’m always worried about the last drops of urine getting onto my other parts of my body like pubic hair and etc. So is it permissible for me to take lots of tissues and place onto my tip of my private part holding the tissues with my left or right hand and wait for 3-5 minutes for the urine to stop and let the tissues observe the last drops of urine. Then wait 2 minutes to ensure no urine is left and then wash it water. Is this method valid because I struggle using the bathroom and I only go twice a day which is bad and I just need help.

my other question is sometimes urine may exit out and there may be a drop of urine on the side or tip of the penis if I overwhelm it with water will the water itself be considered najis or is this sufficient and should we wash whatever the water touches like the testicles that is being poured forth from the najis area.

jazakallah khair

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. May Allaah Ta’aala make it easy for you. There is no specific prescribed method for istibraa. It differs from person to person and you should adopt the method you are content with it. You may place or wrap your private part with a few pieces of tissue and walk or move around a bit. Thereafter, you can wash and then perform wudhu. This should not take as long as you have mentioned. Alternatively, you may consider squeezing or coughing. That generally clears out the passage.

You should be cautious not to entertain unnecessary doubts and thoughts. They are from the shaytaan. Entertaining them will only make it difficult for you. Frequently recite a’oodhu billaah.

  1. Pouring water after relieving yourself will not make the other portion it touches najis. This is another waswasah you are suffering from. Ignore it.

We suggest you study “Combating the Whisperings of Shaytaan” by Shaykh Yunus Patel (R).

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
