Istinja and wiping with right hand

Fatwaa ID: 1594

Question:
asalamalakim Respected scholars my question is how much water in ml did the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him used to clean his private after doing number one?

If someone wipes with there right hand with tissues on the private part three times will this affect his purity and will it still be considered najis even if he knows that wiping with the right hand is wrong?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. The amount of water used by Nabi ﷺ to clean his private parts after relieving himself is not recorded. It would be noted that he did not necessarily use water all the time nor was that always available. See the following fatwaa: https://askthemufti.us/amount-of-water-necessary-for-istinjaa/.
  2. Wiping or cleaning oneself with the right hand does not affect the validity of the purity. As long as the impurity is removed, he will be considered clean. However, his using of the right hand to clean himself is detested.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
