Jewelry for men, sleeveless shirt in salaah

Fatwaa ID: 1220

Question:
Assalamualaikum,
I have 2 questions.

  1. Is it haram for mens to wear silver bracelet and chain?
  2. Is it okay to pray with A-shirt (sleeveless tshirt) on?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. Yes. Jewelry is for women and it is Islamically regarded to be feminine. The only exception is rings. It is not permissible for men to wear bracelets or chains.
  2. It is disliked to unnecessarily perform salaah with one’s shoulders uncovered. When one stands in salaah, he is standing in front of Allaah Ta’aala. He ought to stand respectfully and humbly.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
