Question:
Assalamu alaikum mufti saab. I had a question which I wanted to ask you. Basically I’m going to give an interview for a position in a company which manages peoples energy and utilities and it’s just not looking after someone households but is also looking after businesses as well and quite a lot of the businesses utilities which they manage are pubs so I wanted to confirm with you is it ok for me to work there?

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your job. We commend you for your desire to earn a Shari’ah compliant job. The job in question will be permissible and also the income. However, it will be advisable to give away a small portion of your income in charity as a form of purification.
