Job of an accountant

Fatwaa ID: 1001

Question:
Asalamu Alikom Wa RahmatAllahi Wabarakatu. I have a question, I work as an accountant for property. Part of my job I have to record interest on the mortgages we have as well as on some other things. This takes like 30 seconds as I just get the amount from one place and record it onto our system and excel. I know that it is still haram and I am not trying to be little it. I would say that from my 35 hour work week, collectively for all the interest, it would take less much less than 1 hour (in all honestly it probably takes less than 20 minutes for all of this but just for benefit of the doubt) during the whole month (140 hours approximately). My question is, is my wealth haram, how about this portion? Does it break my fast recording this interest?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your job. We commend you for your zeal to earn halaal. May Allaah Ta’aala place barakah in your wealth.

Your job in reference as an accountant for property is permissible and the income you earn is halaal. However, it would be advisable and perhaps a source of barakah for you to give a small portion of your income away in charity as a form of purification.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
