السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
If someone is praying on their own and I know for sure that they’re, for example, praying zuhr, can I pray behind him? Would he have had to give iqamah and make the intention of leading for anyone to join him? JazakAllahu Khair
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
If you are confident that the person performing salaah alone is performing the same fardh that you intend to perform, then you may join him. Once you join, he will intend leading. That will be sufficient. As for iqaamah, that is not a prerequisite for the validity of the congregation.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
