Laser hair removal, daughter looks ugly

Fatwaa ID: 1804

Question:
As salmuwalikum respected Mufti, my daughter she has so much hair in her upper lip and chin. Can she do Laser Hair Removal. Is it permissible. She does wax but it doesn’t not remove much and looks ugly and black.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala bless your daughter and increase her beauty. It will be permissible for her to undergo a laser hair removal to remove the said hair. We wish to advise you as a mother to console and comfort her in cases where she does not feel beautiful. You should not add fuel to the fire by calling her ugly or other negative words, including racist remarks. Parents often take this lightly but it effects the children greatly. It pushes them to feel low of themselves and ultimately hate themselves. Encourage them and to feel happy with themselves and cherish their natural beauty. We as parents must be considerate of the mental and emotional health of our children.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
