Living in a house purchased through mortgage

Fatwaa ID: 1144

If someone marrys a convert, and she inherited a house, her parents paid off the mortgage and then she got it, when you marry her, would it be allowed to live in that house?
Would it make a difference if she paid off the mortgage herself and then accepted Islam?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of the query. It will be permissible to live in the said house in both of the enquired situation. The prohibition is on the loan itself. This does not extend to living in such a house, especially if you are not the one paying the loan.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
