Question:
Assalamu alaikum ww.
Scenario: I used send my friend to a car dealer who I know to buy a car for himself. After sending him there few times I said to my friend to deal with him directly and whenever you buy a car then you must give me something (any amount of money) without me doing any work.
- Is this permissible?
- If he gives me money then will this be regarded at commission or a gift?

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
- We understand from your query that you are not doing anything. Initially, you were simply suggesting a dealership to your friend. Thereafter, he was going even without your suggestion. You are not providing any service or assistance to him. Accordingly, you cannot demand or charge him anything.
- If he gives you something voluntarily without you asking for it, then that will be regarded as a gift from him as a token of appreciation.
