Marrying one’s foster-sister’s mother

Fatwaa ID: 541

Question:
Amina fed Zainab and Zaid.
Will Aisha who is the mother of Zainab be mahram to Zaid?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The mother of one’s foster sister is not a mahram. Accordingly, in the enquired situation, Aisha will not be a mahram to Zaid. The laws of hijaab will be fully applicable between them.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
