Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
If you miss a rakaat of jumuah fardh Salaah, would you make up 1 or 2 rakaats? And what if you miss both rakaats of jumuah?
جزاكم الله خيرا
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
At the outset, it is reprehensible to come late for Jumu’ah. One should come early before the imaam commences the khutbah. It is waajib to attend the khutbah. There are also great rewards promised for the one who comes early. If one comes late, he should make istighfaar. Nevertheless, the answers to your queries are as follows:
- If a person joins the imaam late for Jumu’ah and thereby misses one rak’ah, then he will make up one rak’ah only.
- If he misses both rak’ah but catches the imaam before the Salaam, then he will make up two rak’ahs only. If he comes after the imaam has completed the salaah, then he will perform Zuhr Salaah individually.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
