Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) pill

Fatwaa ID: 1994

Assalamualaikum, doctor is being asked
For Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) pill what should he do?
Is it islamically ok for him to advice it?

He is being asked now and in a bit of islamic dilemma please do advice ASAP.

Jazakallah khair.

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

A Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) pill, also known as an abortion pill, prevents the pregnancy from growing and then terminates it and empties out the womb. Islam has sanctified and honored life and potential life. Accordingly, it will not be permissible under general circumstances to take the pill(s) in question. Likewise, it will not be permissible for a doctor to prescribe or even advise a woman to take this pill unless there is a Shari’ah sanctioned need. A doctor who prescribes it without a valid need would be sinful just like the one who takes the pill.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
