Miscarriage of a 9 week old fetus

Fatwaa ID: 2194

Question:
The hadith about the miscarriages and babies who die young, will this apply to a miscarried baby at 9 weeks old?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We sympathize with you. May Allaah Ta’aala grant you comfort and solace.

Allaah Ta’aala says,

“Give glad tidings to the patient who say, when struck by a disaster, ‘Surely to Allaah we belong and to Him we will ˹all˺ return.’ Those are the ones upon whom there are blessings from their Lord, and mercy as well. And it is they who are ˹rightly˺ guided.” (Al-Baqarah 155-157)

“Certainly those who observe patience will be given their reward in full without limit.” (Az-Zumar 10)

If a couple exercise patience over a miscarried fetus, hoping from reward from Allaah Ta’aala, Allaah Ta’aala will certainly reward them and make them happy in the Hereafter. As for the hadith regarding one’s child passing away while a minor, that may not exactly apply to a miscarried fetus.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
