Missing Salaah during travels

Fatwaa ID: 1434

Question:
Asalamu’alaikum mufti, if someone misses a prayer while they were traveling do they pray that prayer as kasr kadha?

Asalamu’alaikum mufti, what is the best time to pray kadha prayers?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. At outset, traveling is not an excuse to miss or delay one’s salaah. We must maintain our connection with Allaah Ta’aala through salaah at all times. Salaah is not a burden but a treasure and gift. One must take out due time during travels and perform salaah timeously. Sincere tawbah and istighfaar must be made if one happens to miss it.

Nevertheless, salaah missed during travels will be made up as missed. Thus, if the salaah was supposed to be performed as qasr, then qadhaa too will be qasr. The traveler’s condition at the salaah time ending will be considered.

  1. Qadhaa should be performed as soon as possible. It may be performed at any time besides the three prohibited times. One should not delay the performance of qadhaa salaahs. Death will come unannounced. One should try to meet Allaah Ta’aala with a clean slate.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
