Question:

when I went for Umrah, I made 3 different mistakes, I need to know if I have to give dam for these mistakes? if yes then which animal do I need to sacrifice?

Mistake 1 – In the plane, I made my niyyah for umrah, after that I think I read talbiyyah silently and only once, also I think I didn’t read it immidiately after niyyah, I read talbiyyah after couple of minutes of my niyyah, do I need to give dam for this? if yes then which animal?

Mistake 2 – In Ihraam, I had a shower using soap that had a bit of fragrance on it, do I need to give dam for this? if yes then which animals?

Mistake 3 –  when I went to do my umrah tawwaf, I think I done tawaaf without wudhu, in this case, Do i have to give dam? if yes then which animal do I sacrifice?

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The answers to your queries are as follows:

1.  It is compulsory to recite the talbiyah or its equivalent through which Allaah Ta’aala is extolled once when entering into ihraam, i.e. at or before passing the meeqaat[i]. It is sunnah to raise one’s voice when reciting the talbiyah[ii]. Hence, in the enquired situation, dam is not binding upon you provided you recited the talbiyah before crossing the meeqaat.
2. Showering with fragranced soap while in the state of ihraam necessitates dam[iii]. Hence, a dam is binding upon you.
3. If you performed the entire tawaaf or most of it, i.e. four or more rounds, without wudhu, dam will be binding upon you. However, if you performed three or less rounds without wudhu, then sadaqah will be binding upon you for each round[iv]. However, if you repeated the tawaaf before returning home, dam will not be binding upon you.

Dam refers to a goat or a sheep which must be slaughtered in the haram area and the meat must be distributed to the poor and needy[v]. Sadaqah is equivalent to the amount paid for Sadaqatul Fitr, i.e. approximately 20 riyals.
