Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
If liquid food colouring is mixed with water …such that the water completely changes in colour
Can one use this water to make whudu ?
The colouring is pure
I read this in beshtizewar [pg 80]
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
In principle, water has three legal characteristics: color, taste and smell. if any of the three characteristics of water change, it will not be permissible to make wudhu with that water. The water will no longer be a purifying agent, albeit perhaps pure. In the enquired situation, adding or mixing food color to the water will result in a change in the water that will prevent it from qualifying for wudhu. Notwithstanding this, the water will remain pure.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
