Muqtadee became imaam and continued leading salaah

Fatwaa ID: 1787

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

I Pray respected Mufti sahib is well.
I would like to ask a question.

I was leading fajr salah and in qawmah my wudu broke. I did Salam once to the right side and spoke to the congregation saying, “ I’ve broken my wudu”.
And then left to do wudu. A muqtadi who follows shafi fiqh, went ahead to the musallah on his own accord and continued leading salah from qawmah.

The question is will the hanafi muqtadees salah be valid?

جزاکم الله خيرا

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

No, the salaah of the Hanafi muqtadees was not valid. They must repeat their salaah. The concept of istikhlaaf would not be applicable here as you had spoken in between.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
