Musaafir query

Fatwaa ID: 1138

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah

A musafir intends the following:

Day 1: leave home town, fly 5000 miles to City A. Stay in city A.

Day 7: after fajr, drive 73 miles to city B. Return to city A after Isha.

Day 11: after fajr, again drive 73 miles to city B. Return to city A after Isha.

Day 21: Return to home town.

1) Is he a musafir in city A?

2) Is he a musafir in city B?

3) while he is a musafir staying in City A, does he measure the distance to city B from his hotel or from the boundary of city A?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

We take note of the details of your query. The person in question will be musaafir throughout the entire journey until he returns to his hometown. The distance between the two cities above will be calculated from his starting point until his destination.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
