Musafir, double chin area

Fatwaa ID: 917

Assalamualikum, I have a couple of questions

  1. My class is planning a trip to six flags and it falls beyond the 48 mile range of being a traveler. From previous responses in the chat I learned that traveling beyond 48 miles without a mahram isnt allowed. Is that also applicable in this situation? We would be going as a group of 20-30 girls along with a couple of female teachers.
  2. Is the area between your chin and your neck (the double chin area) considered awra?

Jazakallahu khairan

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. The laws of mahram chaperoneship is applicable here as well. You cannot travel beyond safar distance without a mahram merely for amusement and fun.
  2. The area between the chin and the throat is from the ‘awrah of a woman. The chin itself is not from the ‘awrah. The throat and the neck are from the ‘awrah. The principle is that the entire body of a woman is ‘awrah besides her face and hands from below the wrist. The portion below the chin is not from the face. The Hanafiyyah exclude the feet as well from below the ankles.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
