Nabi ﷺ is light

Fatwaa ID: 1090

Question:
Salam again

A colleague said that the prevalent belief within the ummah about the prophet (PBUH) is that he is the light of Allah

Is this correct?

👆🏾he said the majority of muslims believe that the prophet was created from allahs light
I thought this was a sufi belief so should be a minority opinion?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is a deviant belief of the Ahlul Bid’ah that Nabi ﷺ is created from light/noor. Contrary to the claim of your colleague, this belief is not the majority belief. This is contradictory to express verses of the Qur’aan. The Ahlus Sunnah believe that Nabi ﷺ was a human being and he was created from soil just like any other human being. He was not created from light. He is definitely the light of Allaah Ta’aala in the metaphorical sense that he illuminates the path and shows the right from wrong.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
