Fatwaa ID: 876

Question:
Assalamualaikum

  1. If one is traveling and shortening the fard Salah would they be able to pray tahajjud, chasht, and eshrak?
  2. If someone dedicates a specific amount of time a day for Quran, say an hour, would it be best for them to spend the time reading a portion every day to eventually finish a khatm or is it better to spend the time reading surahs such as Waquiah, Yaseen, fathh, Arrahman etc?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. Yes. It is permissible to perform nafl salaah while traveling, such as Tahajjud, Ishraaq and Dhuha. One will be rewarded greatly.
  2. One should allot time for daily readings towards the completion of a khatmah. Similarly, one should allot time for daily masnoon readings such as Surah Al-Waaqi’ah, Surah Yaseen, Surah Al-Mulk, etc. One should also alot time daily to study the meaning of the Qur’aan.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
