Question:
Assalamualaikum
Can you please tell me the meanings of the names Aariz and Aayan. Are they suitable names?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
- I was unable to find Aariz in the Arabic dictionary, unless it is the Persian pronunciation of ‘Aaridh (عارض). This means accident, demonstrator, temporary, disagreement and similar meanings. We advise against naming your child this. We are advised to choose meaningful and good names.
- I was unable to find the word Aayan. However, a word similar to this is ‘Ayyaan (عيّان). This comes from the word عين which means eye. The name would mean big-eyed which may give the meaning of beautiful and/or intelligent. This name may be suitable.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
