One muadhdhin for two Jumu’ahs

Fatwaa ID: 1583

Question:
Asalamalykum wa rehmatullah

Can a muezzin from the the first Jummah act as a muezzin for the second Jummah salah with the intention of praying nafl in jamat?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

At the outset, a masjid should host one Jumu’ah only unless there is a need such as genuine lack of space. Nevertheless, it is reprehensible for one muadhdhin to give adhaan twice for the same salaah. The second one is nafl for him, and there is no adhaan for nafl salaah. A different person should call the adhaan for the second Jumu’ah. Notwithstanding this, if he does give the adhaan, it will not have to be repeated.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
