Palm oil

Fatwaa ID: 222

Question:

AsalaamuAlaykum.I have a question about Palm oil. Is it halal? I have heard that sometime Palm oil can be dangerous for health but is that only under certain circumstances? E.g.if it is treated in a certain way?

Please could you clarify this as it is in many foods?

Many thanks

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palms[i]. Accordingly, it is permissible to consume palm oil[ii]. You may refer to a nutritionist for health related issues.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
