Parents’ cousins

Fatwaa ID: 1747

Question:
Assalāmualaikum wa Rehmatullāhi wa Barakātuhu,

Are your parents first and second male cousins your mahrams?
JazakAllahukhair

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The cousins of one’s parents are not mahrams to the parents nor the children. The parents and the children must strictly adhere to the laws of hijaab and inter-gender interactions when dealing with the parents’ cousins, first and second.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
