Question:
If you purchase goods for resale on platforms such as ebay/amazon where there is not fixed sale amount
Do you pay zakaat on the purchase price or potential sale price?

Clarification:
On ebay listing the items as auction or amazon the price fluctuates

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, goods purchased for resale are subject to zakaah based on the seller’s selling price. In the enquired situation of an auction, the seller will consider his anticipated price for the item. He may take assistance for this by considering the average market value for it and the difference in auctions.
