Question:
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
If a person makes the intention to wake up for Fajr but they wake up at sunrise instead, if they decided its too late and went back to sleep and will pray once they’ve woken up; will this be acceptable or be deemed as they chose to miss Salah?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
If a person wakes up at sunrise once the time of the salaah comes to end, then the salaah performed will be qadhaa, i.e., considered missed. This is irrespective of whether it is performed immediately after sunrise or thereafter. However, part of showing sincerity and regret is not delaying it and performing it immediately when possible. Istighfaar should be made in all cases. If this is a common problem, then one should identify the problem and work towards rectifying it.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
