PRAYING IN THE SHOWER

Question:

In my office there a restroom area. Inside there is a shower room in the corner. Inside the shower room there is another glass door which has only a shower and no toilet. The floor is always dry and clean and never used. As a last resort when there is no other place available can I say salat in this room using prayer mat. The shower room door is a full door from ceiling to floor. 

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Your zeal to perform salaah timeously is commendable. We make du’aa that Allaah Ta’aala keeps you steadfast on Deen. Aameen

Salaah in a shower separate from the toilet will be valid when there are no other alternatives available, provided that the shower is free from impurity[1]. However, we advise you to request your company for a prayer space or look for an alternative.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.

الصلاة في الحمام مكروهة: إذا كان هناك تماثيل، وإن لم يكن والموضع الذي يصلى فيه طاهر؛ اختلف المشايخ فيه؛ بعضهم قالوا: يكره، وأكثرهم على أنه لا يكره، وكثير من أئمة بخارى كانوا يفعلون ذلك، حكي عن الشيخ الإمام إسماعيل الزاهد رحمه الله: أنه كان يصلي الفريضة في الحمام بالجماعة مع الخادم وغيره.

ولو صلى في الحمام والمخرج والمقبرة يكره، وقيل: لا يكره في الحمام إذا وجد مكانا طاهرا أو ثوبا يستر عورته ولم  يكن فيه صور

وأما الصلاة في الحمام فقال في الولوالجية إن كان في الحمام صور وتماثيل تكره وإن لم يكن وكان الموضع طاهرا لا بأس به لأنه صلى في موضع طاهر قالوا وكثير من أئمة بخارى يفعلون ذلك ( انتهى ) .

ولا يصلي في الحمام إلا لضرورة خوف الوقت لإطلاق الحديث ولا بأس بالصلاة في موضع خلع الثياب وجلوس الحمامي

قوله: “ولا يصلي في الحمام إلا لضرورة الخ” عبارة البرهان الحلبي الأولى أن لا يصلي في الحمام الخ.
