Praying sunnahs while Qur’aan is being recited

Fatwaa ID: 1091

Assalamualaikum Wrwb: I just had one more question:
If zuhr time for Jumuah already commenced and when the person goes into the Masjid, he sees that someone is reciting Quran on the mic, so in this instance, should that musalli listen to the Quran and wait for him to finish or should he just pray his Sunnah anyway despite the Quran recitation

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

If time will be given afterwards for sunnahs, then you should wait for that and listen to the recitation. If time will not be given afterwards but instead the khutbah will start immediately thereafter, then you may perform your sunnahs.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
