Praying while someone is sleeping in front of you

Fatwaa ID: 786

Question:
Asalamu’alaikum mufti, the direction of prayer in my room is towards my bed and in the morning my sister is sleeping, so is it permissible for me to pray in that direction or do I have to pray in a different room?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

May Allaah Ta’aala bless you and your sister. In the enquired situation, it will be permissible for you to perform salaah in your room in front of your bed while your sister is sleeping on it. However, it will be advisable that you do not perform salaah directly facing her face.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
