Is it permissible to take preemptive fees for a month for a class?
For example if someone enrolls into a class and pays for the month before hand which he will not get back even if he leaves in the middle of the month.
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
It is not clear what you mean by preemptive fees. Nonetheless, a service provider, the teacher in this case, may request the service receiver, the student in this case, to provide a deposit or an early payment to confirm his enrollment. Should the student decide to withdraw from the classes prior to the commencement of the classes with reasonable time, then he will be entitled to a return of his full payment. However, once the classes begin and he decides to leave, then he will not be entitled to a return of any amount unless the fees are on a day to day or week to week basis.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
