Question:
Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I heard that if underarm/ pubic hair grows to the length of a grain of rice, you have to cut/trim it right away. Is this true? If not, is there any specific length that it can’t reach? Jazakallah khaira

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Islam has emphasized the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene. It is unhygienic to allow one’s unwanted hair to grow long. Shari’ah has permitted up to 40 days. The unwanted hair however should preferably be removed weekly. That is mustahabb. As for your query regarding the length of a grain of rice, I was unable to find anything to substantiate that. Forty days is the maximum allowed time.
