Puma logo, knee and navel awrah and watching sports

Fatwaa ID: 1615

Asalam alaikum
I have a 2 queries

1) Is it okay to wear clothes with Puma / US polo logos while praying

2) does the men’s awrah include the knees and the navel or the awrah is only the part between them. If the knees and navel are included too, will it be sinful to view it like while watching football or other sports

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

  1. It is permissible to wear clothes with the Puma and Polo logos. Silhouettes do not fall within the ambit of prohibited tasweer. Likewise, if something is small, it will be excused.

2a. According to the Hanafi legal school, the knees are from the ‘awrah. The navel however is not from the ‘awrah but the ‘awrah starts from immediately below it. Other legal schools like the Shaafi’ee school regard the navel to be from the ‘awrah.

2b. It is haraam to look at the ‘awrah of others including athletes. If the players are not covering their ‘awrah, then it will not be permissible to watch such sports. This is applicable even if your purpose is something else. There is no way to avoid it in many sports.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
