An elderly woman with osteoarthritis performs her salaah on a chair. However, she finds it’s difficult at fajr to be moved, but is unable to face the qiblah when reading from her bed.
Would her fajr salaah be valid?
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
May Allaah Ta’aala grant her complete shifaa and make it easy for her. If she is unable to perform salaah standing or sitting, she will be excused to perform it through gestures while laying down in bed. If it reasonably possible, then she should face or turn towards the qiblah. The family may consider making some changes in the room set-up. If that is not possible, then she will be excused to perform salaah in the direction she is facing when laying down.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
