Question:
Assalamu Alaikum wrwb. A student is participating in a Qirat competition in her school during Ramadan . If she has her period at that time can she go ahead and recite ? She is the final contestant . What is the ruling in such a case. JazakAllah khair.

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

It is haraam for a woman to recite the Qur’aan whilst on her menses. This is irrespective of the purpose. A Qira’at competition is no excuse to violate this prohibition even if she is the final contestant. She should excuse herself or request an alternative date.
