Qunoot naazilah

Fatwaa ID: 883

Question:
As Salaamu Alaikum

Dear Mufti Saab

During Esha salaah today, in the last rakaat after coming up from Rukoo the Imaam raised his hands and recited some duas before going into Sajdah, I know Qunoote Naazilah is read in fajr, but I’ve never experienced duas being read in this way in Esha, please could you explain

Jazak-Allah

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

According to the Hanafi legal school, Qunoot Naazilah is performed in the Fajr Salaah only. The other legal schools, such as the Shaafi’ee legal school, permit Qunoot Naazilah in all the salaahs. The imaam in reference perhaps follows a legal school other than the Hanafi legal school. In such a case, the Hanafi follower should remain standing with his hands down. He should not audibly say Aameen.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
