Question:
Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah
What is ths ruling of giving Qurbani on adult daughter’s name ( she is not earning ) is that allowed ?
Do i need to give 2 Goats ( Parent nd daughter) or 1 is sufficient?
Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.
1a. At the outset, whether one is earning or not is irrelevant in determining liability of qurbaani. The obligation of qurbaani is dependant on the wealth one possesses on the days of ‘Eid, provided that he is sane, mature and a resident. If he possesses wealth, aside from his basic needs, equivalent to or more than the nisaab threshold on the 10th, 11th or 12th of Dhul Hijjah, then qurbaani will be waajib upon him.
1b. The obligation is on the individual himself. It is not necessary upon the parents or the spouse to offer the qurbaani on their behalf. However, if they wish to do so willingly, then that will be permissible. Consent should be taken first from the person. If qurbaani is not waajib on that person but someone wishes to voluntarily offer qurbaani on their behalf, then that will be permissible as well. Consent in this case is not needed.
- One goat is sufficient for one person only. Hence, it will be necessary to offer two goats for a parent and a daughter. One goat will not be sufficient for both.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
